Join us for the ERL Autumn Event to the Lake District, 9th – 14th September 2026. Based at the historic Gosforth Hall Hotel, this five-night tour offers a perfect blend of stunning drives, historic railways, and the breathtaking scenery of the western Lake District.
Explore the dramatic Wasdale Valley, home to Scafell Pike (England’s highest mountain) and Wastwater (England’s deepest lake). Experience classic driving roads including Hardknott and Wrynose Passes, take a ride on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Steam Railway, and enjoy a steamer trip on Ullswater. This is the Lake District at its very best.
The Accommodation: Gosforth Hall Hotel
Originally built in 1658, the Gosforth Hall Hotel is full of history and character, featuring sandstone walls, oak beams, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The hotel has 23 rooms, ranging from 350-year-old characterful bedrooms to more contemporary accommodation in the annex. Guests can enjoy one of the finest beer gardens in the UK, excellent hospitality, and a comfortable base just 8 miles from Scafell Pike. With a guest rating of 8.9, Gosforth Hall is the ideal retreat for exploring the Lakes.






ERL Autumn Event to the Lake District, 9th – 14th September 2026
£1,525.00 per person, sharing standard accommodation.
Superior room supplement (Annex): £25.00 per person (5 nights).
Suite (main building): £125.00 per person (5 nights).
Two standard rooms are in a 2-bed apartment with shared lounge, and three standard rooms are in a 3-bed apartment with shared lounge.
All rooms are ensuite. Meals for all guests are served in the main building.

Thursday 10th – Sunday 13th September
Ravenglass & Eskdale Steam Railway: Ride this famous narrow-gauge steam line through beautiful countryside.
Hardknott and Wrynose Passes: Drive some of the UK’s most iconic and challenging motoring roads.
Ullswater Steamer: A scenic cruise on England’s second-largest lake.
Local drives: Explore the scenery of Buttermere, Wasdale, and other highlights of the western Lake District, with morning coffee stops included.
Monday 14th September
Depart after breakfast.
